Art Deco in Bukavu, Congo

Bukavu is the capital of the province of South Kivu, Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The city has over 100 art deco buildings constructed during Belgian colonial rule.

Art Deco architecture built by the colonial inhabitants of what was then the Belgian Congo in the 1920s and 1930s.

Independence came in 1960 and most of Bukavu seems to have remained frozen in time ever since.


 The Our Lady of Peace Cathedral (Cathédrale Notre-Dame de la Paix de Bukavu)

also known as the Cathedral of Bukavu.

The temple was built from 1948 to 1951
