Alaska Art Deco Lighthouses   

In the late 1800’s the discovery of gold in Canada’s neighbouring Yukon Territory brought a rush of settlers and commerce to Alaska.

The early quickly-built wooden lighthouses were replaced in the 1920s and 1930s by an interesting group of Art Deco concrete towers.

The first American lighthouses in Alaska were erected in 1902.

Most were rebuilt before 1940 in a distinctive Art Deco style.
